Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and I’m not ready! Usually I plan some crafts for the kids, and I like to make a special themed edible treat for Jeremy and the kids, like these convo hearts cookies I made a couple years ago. And of course I’m always trying to add to my collection of hand made holiday decor!
The last few weeks I’ve been busy (okay, obsessed) with getting ready for a long-planned family vacation that happens shortly after Valentine’s Day. I’m usually great at multitasking, but that doesn’t seem to be working so well for me right now.
One thing I have managed to accomplish is replace my mantel swag. I’ve used these hearts for a few years now, that I found through Pinterest. But this year I was ready for a change. That change was also helped along by a toddler who decided to un-string all the hearts.
This is what I came up with. I used a heart stencil to trace hearts onto the paper side of Heat n’ Bond. Then I ironed them on cotton fabric scraps, cut them out with pinking shears, peeled off the paper backing and ironed them onto matching felt. Then I cut the felt around the heart shapes, also with pinking shears. Finally they are hot-glued onto a narrow pink ribbon, with a loop tied at each end. I used dark pink fabric paint to add the words. Easy peasy. And this project didn’t even require any sewing.
I love how it looks on my mantel. Now I just need to get the rest of my Valentine’s mantel decor put up. And I just might still have a lingering Christmas item or 2 that still needs to be put away. I love to decorate, y’all…the UN-decorating is more like a chore! 😉
I am determined to get a plan together for crafts and goodies for Valentine’s Day by the end of THIS week end! That means it’s time to go surf Pinterest for a bit…never mind that I already have nearly 300 pins in that category. I obviously still need MORE.
So what are your plans for Valentine’s Day? Do you do special crafts or activities, or gifts? I’d love to hear y’all’s ideas in the comments!
