Things are crazy busy around here right now. Crazy busy. It seems like deadlines always have to sneak up in multiples…never in a nice, easy one-at-a-time manner.
First of all, I’m trying to prepare and pack up 9 people’s worth of stuff for our upcoming cruise vacation. Now don’t get me wrong…I’m as excited as anything about this trip. It will include my parents, both siblings and their spouses, and all 11 of the cousins. This will be the first time all the families have been together since my brother and sister-in-law’s wedding almost 4 years ago. And some of the adults still haven’t met some of the littlest kids, so this really is a big deal.
But the packing! Oh my goodness! I did the math last night. With all the changes between day clothes and dinner clothes, and a few extras for the 2 youngest just in case, I figured I’m going to be packing 114 outfits for the 9 of us, not including pajamas. ONE-HUNDRED FOURTEEN outfits! Do we even own that many clothes? Eeek! I know for certain we don’t own that many suitcases! Some creativity is certainly going to be in order.
Oh, and all of the boys’ summery clothes are in bins in the attic. If I had been smart, I’d have put everything for the cruise in a separate bin back in September when I did the big seasonal clothing switch. After all, we’ve been planning this trip since January of 2012…so I have no excuse for not planning ahead a little bit!
The other big deadline has to do with school. We signed the older 2 boys up for their online private school in August and September, so their 6-month first semester is ending in the next couple weeks. Jonathan only has one class to finish, but Joshua still has quite a bit to do. So keeping them on task is taking a good bit of time and energy on my part right now.
The pink and gray prints to match Joanna’s pink and gray walls for her quilt
With all that’s going on, it makes sense that I wouldn’t start any new projects, right? Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Yeah, right! I finally started Joanna’s quilt for her bed this week (I’ll reveal her room when I get the quilt top finished!) so she won’t have to have an old navy blue comforter on her bed in a room that is all pink and girly.
I’ve also been making busy bags for the little ones for our trip. I really really love to put felt and fabrics together. I like the thickness and sturdiness of felt, and the fact that you can stitch it together without having to turn it and hide the seams…because it doesn’t fray. But most of the felt I can get around here is in solid colors, which is pretty boring. So by adding fabric prints, I can make things a whole lot brighter and more fun. I’ve made 4 different felt/fabric busy bags in the past week or so. This one is for both fine motor/buttoning practice and ordering shapes from largest to smallest.
I’m actually making several shapes, but I did the heart first. After I made it I noticed how Valentine-y it looked, but I’m going to save it for our trip anyway! I’m thinking when I get the other shapes made, I’ll scan some templates and throw them on here with some simple instructions. These are really simple, y’all. I’m in quick and easy mode right now!
I’m entertaining an idea to pick one day a week to put up a new busy bag here, along with patterns and instructions. Does that sound fun to anyone? Y’all let me know what you think in the comments, okay?
