We’ve slowly been trying out more of the fun projects and recipes I’ve got pinned on Pinterest. This particular treat was a HUGE hit with the kids! Here, in pictures, is our attempt to make lollipops out of Jolly Rancher hard candies.
We needed a cookie sheet covered with aluminum foil, a bag of Jolly Ranchers, and a package of lollipop sticks, purchased with my 40% off coupon at Michael’s.
Then we needed to unwrap all those candies! Needless to say, no one minded that job too much.
Some of our smaller helpers appointed themselves candy tasters. Apparently someone has to make sure the candy is actually yummy before proceeding.
We arranged the candies in groups of 3 on our prepared cookie sheet.
They remind me of glow sticks here…almost eerie, huh? I wonder what chemicals are responsible for that, and how bad it is for you when you eat them? Ha!
We put them in the oven at about 200 until they melted, checking on them every few minutes. It didn’t take very long. When we took them out, we had to immediately put the sticks in before the candy hardened again. I placed each stick on top of the candy, then gently rolled the stick over so that it was coated with the candy and would stay put.
We let them harden for a few minutes…
And then everybody enjoyed our fun, tasty snack!
Of course the kids all want to make these again. But I’ve got a loooooong list of other projects and treats we need to try out first!
If you make these, please come back and let us know how you liked them!
(It was a little bit (okay, a lot) tricky to find the original “recipe” for these as the pin led to the home page of a blog that re-posts things from other sources. But I think THIS is the original link.)
