I’m so excited to share with y’all the latest addition to my craft room! We were at Ikea last week for about the fiftieth time since we moved here (I LOVE that place, lol!), and I found these cute lacy white containers over in the candle section:
And of course I just had to pick up a few of them! They are from the Skurar series, and I have since found that there are a couple other sizes in addition to these, as well as a couple that look more like plates with the same lacy edges. I’ll be going back to get some of those for another project… But anyway, back to these. I brought them home, and decided they’d be perfect for holding some of my ever-growing collection of craft tools.
But…they’re plain white. And all of my craft room cabinets and shelves are also plain white. So I had to make these stand out! I’m using various shades of 3 accent colors in several areas of my house, including my craft room. They are teal, orange, and lime green. I already have quarts of paint in a few shades of these colors, so rather than spray paint (which would be my natural inclination for a metal container with holes all over it) I decided to go ahead and use a brush and the latex paints I already have on hand.
They ended up cute painted in my colors, but I thought they needed something more. So I FINALLY broke out the Silhouette I bought last August, that had been sitting on a shelf with all its parts still in the original wrappings because I was SO intimidated by it. Yeah, I know…I’m ridiculous! LOL! I can’t say the software and I are good friends yet, but I figured out just enough to make up some VERY simple labels, cut them out, and apply them. In hindsight I probably should have made them with less solid white around the words, but for my first try I’m please with the results.
I didn’t want to have really long names to put on the labels, so instead of “knitting needles” and “paint brushes” etc., I just cut the words down to the basic verb each item is used for. I like the effect. These are going to be super cute and very handy sitting on the shelves of my craft room, all colorful and organized. *happy sigh*
We also bought shelf extenders for some of the Ikea bookshelves I have in there, and some cabinets to hang above the bookshelves and design wall area on the other side of the room. When it is done, I promise there will be a big reveal! In the meantime, I’ll share photos of individual areas as they come together. It’s shaping up to be a really great space!
Oh!!! And last but not least, congratulations to Cris C., who won my cloth “paper doll” giveaway!! I’ll be contacting you tomorrow for an address so I can mail it to you!
